Sandra Bell
I have been teaching Pilates for 18 years. I qualified through Modern Pilates, initially as a group mat-based instructor, then as a personal trainer. I hold a Level 3 CYQ Teaching Certificate in Modern Pilates ** and have continued to develop my knowledge in hip, knee and shoulder conditions, pregnancy and breast cancer recovery.
I started in the fitness industry over 30 years ago qualifying as a Group Instructor/personal trainer teaching various exercise/fitness disciplines. I hold a Diploma in Leisure and Recreation (Leeds Beckett University). I am a qualified YMCA and Modern Pilates Assessor working for Professional Fitness (formerly Northern Fitness & Education).
I continue to look for self-development opportunities by attending training courses and workshops on a regular basis. At present I am studying the Somatic Movement, a discipline of movement re-education, I feel this compliments Pilates and I am gradually incorporating some of the principles into my current teaching.
** Modern Pilates was developed by leading physiotherapists and exercise professionals who wanted to create a more modern approach to pilates. It incorporates up to date research from the world of physiotherapy and other holistic forms of exercise. This makes for a very safe and effective exercise programme for those wishing to continue their rehabilitation after injury or just enjoy a controlled mind and body form of exercise. The principles are to help correct natural spinal alignment, stabilisation of the trunk and shoulders and correct muscle recruitment by using small precise actions whilst focusing on mental relaxation.
