CATHERINE HEWITT
Pilates Instructor
I was first introduced to Pilates via my own physiotherapist, after suffering with back issues after the birth of my son. I quickly came to see the wide ranging benefits of this holistic exercise. Now, 15 years after my first introduction to Pilates, I am delighted to be passing on those benefits to others, as a teacher and passionate advocate of the exercise. I am qualified as a mat-based instructor through Modern Pilates** and hold a YMCA Level 3 Diploma in Teaching Pilates. I continue to develop my knowledge via CPD courses covering specialist issues such as vestibular rehabilitation, which I then incorporate into my teaching. I am currently studying shoulder conditions and shall be attending spine, hip and knee condition courses later in the year.
** Modern Pilates was developed by leading physiotherapists and exercise professionals who wanted to create a more modern approach to pilates. It incorporates up to date research from the world of physiotherapy and other holistic forms of exercise. This makes for a very safe and effective exercise programme for those wishing to continue their rehabilitation after injury or just enjoy a controlled mind and body form of exercise. The principles are to help correct natural spinal alignment, stabilisation of the trunk and shoulders and correct muscle recruitment by using small precise actions whilst focusing on mental relaxation.
